Youth Leadership Bootcamp — Africa Zeal University, Lobonok

Glad to have participated in the 3rd Edition of the Youth Leadership Bootcamp at Africa Zeal University in Lobonok, a four-day programme focused on leadership, communication, teamwork and youth development.

The Experience

From 15–18 October 2026, I participated in the 3rd Edition of the Youth Leadership Bootcamp at Africa Zeal University in Lobonok.

Hosted by the Youth Empowerment Organization (YEO) in partnership with Africa Zeal University and AfriYAN South Sudan, the programme brought together young people for four days of learning, dialogue and practical leadership development.

The sessions covered leadership, effective communication, public speaking, teamwork, personal growth and responsible decision-making. Participants also engaged in discussions on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), with emphasis on informed choices and issues affecting young people and their communities.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

The programme extended beyond formal sessions. Team activities, football, shared meals, group discussions and evening gatherings created opportunities for participants to interact, exchange perspectives and build meaningful connections.

These activities reinforced an important part of leadership development: learning how to communicate, collaborate and work effectively with people from different backgrounds and experiences.

Experiencing Lobonok

Holding the bootcamp in Lobonok provided a setting that encouraged both learning and reflection.

Time spent around Africa Zeal University and the surrounding community offered an opportunity to experience a different environment outside Juba while connecting with fellow participants beyond the structured programme.

The combination of classroom discussions, outdoor activities and informal conversations made the four-day experience both engaging and memorable.

What I Took Away

One of my main reflections from the bootcamp was that leadership goes beyond holding a position or title. It is reflected in how we communicate, listen, make decisions, work with others and contribute to the communities around us.

The programme also reinforced the value of bringing young people together to exchange ideas and learn from one another.

I left Lobonok with new perspectives, meaningful connections and a stronger appreciation for continuous personal and leadership development.
